About us
The Data Protection and Freedom of Information team sits within UCL’s Office of General Counsel and is responsible for providing advice on a wide range of data protection and freedom of information matters relating to the University.
The Data Protection and Freedom of Information Team is headed by Alexandra Potts, the Chief Privacy Officer. Alexandra reports to the General Counsel, Natasha Lewis, who reports to the Provost, Dr Michael Spence.
About the role
The Data Protection and Freedom of Information Administrator is a business and technology focused role which requires ambition and focus to help drive through the transformation required by an evolving institution against a background of increasing regulatory focus, transparency, competition, globalisation and a rapidly evolving threat horizon, especially in the information security space.
The Data Protection and Freedom of Information Administrator will be a member of the University's Data Protection and Freedom of Information team within the Office of General Counsel. The post holder will be responsible for handling the administrative side of UCL's day to day compliance with the UK GDPR, the Freedom of Information Act 2000 (FOIA), and the Environmental Information Regulations (EIRs).
The successful candidate will be required to provide high-level day-to day organisation and administrative support to the Data Protection team.
We may recruit multiple posts to this role and we will advise candidates if this is the case during the recruitment process.
Please note: This role does not meet the eligibility requirements for a Skilled Worker Visa certificate of sponsorship under UK Visas and Immigration legislation. Therefore, UCL will not be able to sponsor individuals who require right to work in the UK to carry out this role.
About you
We are looking for candidates educated to a minimum of ‘GCSE’ level standard or equivalent with experience of working in a busy customer-focused environment. You need to be able to work confidentially and pro-actively under pressure and to tight deadlines.
For this role you will need excellent organisational and planning skills including attention to detail and accuracy; time management skills with the ability to handle several tasks at the same time. Excellent organisational skills: ability to manage competing demands and time- critical schedules to meet deadlines are also essential.
You will also need experience of building relationships and successfully collaborating with internal stakeholders. We are looking for a team player who supports and encourages colleagues, but also has the ability to work individually.
You will need to demonstrate good written communication skills, including the ability to tailor communications to a range of audiences.
You will be expected to carry out your duties with tact and diplomacy and an understanding of and respect for the principles of confidentiality.
Relevant Data Protection and/or Freedom of Information professional experience is desirable.
What we offer
For this job we offer a salary between £33,259 – 38,466 per annum (including London Allowance) depending on your level of skills and experience.
