Healthcare Assistant - Pain Management
at East Lancashire Hospitals NHS Trust Manchester in Manchester (Published at 27-11-2023)
In order to assist with our service delivery we are seeking an enthusiasticHCAto join us in what is an exciting opportunity to work within the Integrated MSK, Pain and Rheumatology Service (IMPReS). The post is based in the Pain Management Service Unit at Burnley General Hospital working with an established multidisciplinary team. The working hours will be37.5 hoursper working week to cover the Pain unit’s opening hours which can vary on a daily basis between 08.00-18.00, Monday to Friday.
The post holder must be flexible as although the post is based at BGH, part of the role will be to work on different sites within ELHT to cover clinics and treatment sessions.
The East Lancs Chronic Pain Unit is a self-contained department which is located within the Edith Watson Unit at BGH. Most of the Pain Management Service Out-Patient clinics are run from here and in addition it provides the centralised base for the team members.
This role supports the other 3 members of the qualified Nursing team in their daily duties and as such is vital in maintaining high standards of care of patients and effective communication in many different situations which could involve patients, relatives, carers and visitors to the unit. You must be able to deal with people in a professional confident manner, whilst demonstrating sensitivity, and acknowledging individuals differing needs.
Other duties include administrative tasks e.g. reception cover, housekeeping, ensuring the smooth running of the pain unit and service in providing support for all Clinicians in clinics, setting up clinics and treatment sessions, ensuring stock levels are maintained and supporting staff in the set up and delivery of group sessions.

The Pain Management team currently comprises of Consultants, Specialist Nurses, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Pharmacist, Clinical Psychologists and Reception, Secretarial and Admin Staff team. When working on other sites within IMPReS the role may support Consultants, Gps with Specialist Interests , Advanced Practice Physiotherapists, and other health professionals as required.
You must have the ability to adapt to a changing environment, multi-tasking and changing methods of working using initiative. A patient and empathetic nature and the ability to deal with all patients and visitors equally are essential in this role. At times you will be working under pressure, and dealing with patients and other demands all at the same time. You must possess the ability to work as part of a team, communicate well with health professionals, colleagues and the general public, particularly in respect of sensitive issues. You must ensure that confidentiality is considered and maintained at all times.
