The General Medical Council helps to protect patients and improve medical education and practice in the UK by setting standards for students and doctors. We support them in achieving (and exceeding) those standards, and take action when they are not met.

The Assessment Development Team develops and maintains assessment materials used to deliver GMC assessments. It’s a fast paced environment with lots of different work streams to get involved in. Working directly with doctors, to support doctors, and uphold patient safety, makes for very rewarding work. In this role at the GMC you will enjoy plenty of variety in working with GMC colleagues, doctors and health professionals and make a positive impact protecting patients.

As an Assessment Administrator you will lead on and support other team members with:

  • editing and reviewing exam content
  • managing the admin behind the exams
  • running and supporting meetings and events where we work with associates to write, test and standard set material
  • supporting our associates*
  • associates are doctors who are contracted to work with the team to help us develop assessment materials and facilitate events.

This is a hybrid role between home working and office working, you’ll work at least 2 days a week in the office, more when needed or if wanted. You may be required to work 5 days a week in the office for the first 1-2 months to gain knowledge of the role through shadowing colleagues. Some travel to London and overnight stays are also required.

Flexible working requests will be considered in line with the policy but we are a busy, events based team.

What are we looking for?

You’ll need administrative experience, a keen eye for detail and good prioritisation skills with the initiative to manage your own workload. You should be a confident communicator who can build strong relationships with people face-to-face, and by phone and email. You should also be proactive and able to work as part of a team and on your own when required.

If you are interested in applying for this role, please submit a CV and a cover letter, which demonstrates your reason for applying and a summary of how you meet the essential skills of the role. You don’t need to address the desirable skills for the role. We suggest no more than 2 pages however it can be longer.

We strongly believe that diversity of background and experience contributes to a broader collective perspective that will consistently lead to us being a better regulator. We are working hard to increase the diversity of our staff, and also the diversity of those we work with wherever we can and we would actively encourage applicants from diverse backgrounds to apply.

The GMC values diversity and has made a public commitment to processes and procedures that are fair, objective, transparent and free from discrimination.

In return, you’ll benefit from being part of an organisation that is genuinely committed to its people. Within our friendly environment, you will have access to a range of learning and development opportunities designed to support your ongoing progression. You’ll benefit from being part of an organisation that is genuinely committed to its people. We offer an attractive salary and benefits package to find out more please click here.
