Medical Secretary Full Time

at Central and North West London NHS Foundation Trust London in London (Published at 16-11-2023)

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a forward thinking, enthusiastic, highly motivated and experienced Medical Secretary to join the Palliative Care Service, based in Camden. This post forms part of the administrative team supporting a service working across two sites, one working within UCLH supporting the inpatient team, and the other out of St Pancras Hospital, supporting the community team.

The successful candidate will provide high quality, comprehensive secretarial support to the Medical and Nursing Consultants within the service, as well as supporting the administrative functions of the teams. The post acts as the primary point of contact for the consultants, effectively supporting communication to and from their office and managing their diaries efficiently.

The Palliative Care Service provides specialist care in community and hospital settings for patients with an advanced or progressive illness which may be incurable. The care we deliver can be provided alongside other active medical and therapeutic treatments, in order to improve quality of life. For those towards the end of life we hope that patients can die in comfort, with dignity and in the surroundings of their choice. Our specialists include nurses, doctors, occupational therapists, physiotherapists, social workers, clinical psychologists and assistant practitioners.

The post will also support a wide range of administrative tasks for the consultants, such as: production of reports; management of consultant clinics provided by the service; administration of consultant led projects and groups within the service; arrangement of and support for meetings; support with the patient record system, and management of an effective filing system.

We are looking for an enthusiastic person who enjoys a challenge and a variety of tasks, and has strong multitasking skills. You will need to have a good standard of education, previous admin / PA experience (previous medical secretary experience would be desirable), excellent communication and interpersonal skills and a high level of IT proficiency (particularly Microsoft Office). The ability to work as part of a team is essential. The postholder will need the ability to deal professionally with emotionally distressed and vulnerable patients and their families/carers. Previous NHS experience is desirable, and previous experience of Systm1 and EPIC is also desirable.

The successful applicant may have contact with patients or service users. As an NHS Trust we strongly encourage and support vaccination as this remains the best way to protect yourself, your family, your colleagues and of course patients and service users when working on our healthcare settings.

Our catchment area spans diverse communities, with over 100 first languages spoken. It contains areas of great affluence as well as areas of much deprivation. We are committed to providing services that meet the needs of the people who use them, and we actively encourage involvement from local people who can help make a difference. We’re proud of our diversity and we continue to undertake new initiatives to advance equality for LGBT+, BME and people with disabilities to promote good relations and understanding between our staff.

Working for CNWL provides you with many development and training opportunities to further your career. We also have a generous annual leave allowance - 27 days’ leave (rising to 29 after 5 and to 33 after 10 years’ service) – and a generous NHS pension. We offer a relocation package (subject to eligibility assessment) and flexible working options, including bank assignments for most roles. See attached Staff Reward and Wellbeing Handbook detailing our benefits, discounts and wellbeing initiatives for staff, which include cycle and travelcard loans, salary deduction schemes enabling you to buy a car and hundreds of household items whilst spreading the cost over 12 months.

Please note this vacancy could close early if sufficient applications are received. We advise you complete your application once you start
