The Role We are looking for an experienced and technically proficient IT Manager to join our engineering department and lead our Corporate IT team (CIT). Reporting into the engineering management team this role presents an exciting opportunity to manage various modern cloud-based infrastructure, software and network technologies that support internal business operations. The team currently consists of an Infrastructure Engineer and 2 Helpdesk Engineers. It supports over 220 remote workers attached to 3 offices in London, Manchester and New York. You will be joining a growing business and helping align technology initiatives with the company's mission and vision. Depending on the office you are attached to, the successful candidate should be prepared to travel to the other UK office on occasion, this might be monthly.
You will be responsible for line managing the CIT team, regularly pairing with team members, mentoring and helping them to achieve their goals. Initially, you will focus on getting up to speed with our technology and processes, and soon after you will take on line management responsibility for the team.
At Spektrix we have embedded agile delivery practices throughout the engineering teams, extending to the CIT. Part of the role is to facilitate and help align the team with these practices and to work with other engineering teams as needed. In particular, you will support the Security Lead in key cyber security initiatives and wider Business Support Team projects. You may also be required to participate in various cross-departmental teams for initiatives such as hybrid working or office moves.
Key Responsibilities
Main accountabilities will include:
Ensuring successful delivery of CIT projects, maintenance and reactive support
Ensure effective internal systems and user documentation
Ensure resilience in our systems (e.g. backup and recovery, networks)
Ensure smooth onboarding/offboarding of employees
Corporate IT budgets - ensuring value for money and reliable forecasting for infrastructure, licensing and asset management/acquisition
Responsible for:
Line manage the Corporate IT team
Supporting teams across the business with IT projects
Oversee and continuously improve a modern cloud and network infrastructure
Technical escalation for complex issues
Support business continuity planning and tests
Taking appropriate steps to maintain and protect the confidentiality, integrity and availability of Spektrix systems and data, and supporting compliance activities such as ISO27001
Key Requirements
Candidates must:
Have prior experience managing, building and maintaining internal IT infrastructure technologies
Cloud (e.g. AWS, Azure or other cloud infrastructure technologies)
Network (e.g. firewalls, routing, VPNs)
Business productivity tooling (e.g. Google Workspace/M365)
An understanding of automation, scripting and source control
Be an experienced leader
Aligning a team with their goals, and understanding the value their team delivers.
Facilitating team members' career development by providing opportunities.
Experience in hiring and interviewing
Complex projects and stakeholder management.
Comfortable with budgets, forecasting for internal IT operations and supplier management.
Be able to communicate fluently and teach others the following working practices
Problem resolution
Effective documentation
Be comfortable with network and server infrastructure concepts
Identity and privilege management (AAA, SAML/SSO), access control methodologies
Performance, monitoring and cost control
Root cause analysis
Be keen to learn new technologies and skills
