JOB TITLE: Network Engineer


REPORTING TO: UK IT Operations Director


LOCATION: Hybrid role: Remote and UK Head Office locations (Ruislip, Greenwich, Heathrow)


CONTRACT: FTE, 40 hrs per week


SALARY: Competitive


ROLE OVERVIEW AND PURPOSE


The Network Engineer is responsible for the development, ongoing technical expertise and solution delivery in the network, cloud, and ancillary network areas. This role holds significant responsibility for implementing & supporting robust and scalable technology platforms to ensure the ongoing performance of ABM’s IT systems. This role will be focused on implementation & support using ABM standards & designs and working with the Network Services Team to implement ABM’s network systems. The Network Engineer will work with other Network Services Team Members and IT Teams within the global IT team, including Solution Architects, Enterprise Architects, and Infrastructure Project Managers.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES



  • Create and maintain network diagrams and other associated UK documentation



  • Lead on the risk assessment process (via enterprise risk management system and in collaboration with the US Infosec team)



  • Ownership of procurement relationships within network space i.e fibre contracts across ABM UK portfolio



  • Be responsible for all networking issues across UK ABM head office sites



  • Act as a mentor/coach to the networking apprentice



  • Manage and control all UK assets via CMDB, making all relevant changes as required



  • Contribute to the development of business continuity/ disaster recovery plans for the UK



  • Server security remediations



  • SSL certificate management



  • Experience of cloud migration (preferably to Azure)



  • Lead on UK office relocations



  • Operational ownership and development lead on infrastructure connectivity (i.e with enterprise applications, future data lakes)



  • Install, configure, and test network components/ devices securely to defined corporate specifications (physical & virtual)



  • Acquire and analyse network performance data to monitor network activity to optimise performance



  • Investigate and problem solve performance issues



  • Maintain records in line with organisational policy



  • Service desk incident escalations



  • Participation in global network services team meetings and planning sessions



  • Out of hours support/ participate in on call rotation

  • Be part of the bid team/ mobilisation to liaise with Operations on IT requirements for new contracts. i.e fibre lines, Wi-Fi and provide accurate costing for tender submissions

Collaboration with the US networking team on US based projects




    REQUIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE


    Any combination of requirements, which provide knowledge and abilities necessary to perform essential duties and responsibilities, will be considered.



    • 3-4 years of experience in Network Engineering

    • 2+ years of experience with Cloud computing (Preferably Azure)

    • Cisco Associate level certification (CCNA) or equivalent experience

    • Enterprise Network Monitoring software experience (e.g. SolarWinds Orion)



    • Strong Network Troubleshooting skillset in a campus environment

    • Demonstrated capability to build and support a Layer 2 & Layer 3 production network environment (e.g. router & switch IOS upgrades, design, configuration & support of a production network)

    • Undergraduate degree in computer science, systems analysis, related study or equivalent combination of education and work experience that provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work.

    • Ability to research, identify and recommend industry best practices (using existing, new, and emerging technologies) for solving business problems.

    • Ability to maintain knowledge of IT network architecture, standards and practices and consistently apply these standards.



    • Ability to communicate complex technical solutions to both technical and non-technical audiences.


    QUALIFICATIONS


    Preferred Qualification:



    • 2+ years of experience with Data Centre Network Technologies, SD-WAN, Cisco technologies and Meraki wireless



    • 1+ years of experience with Cisco Identity Service Engine (ISE) or another 3rd party Network Access Control (NAC) product

    • 1+ years of experience with Cisco Unified Call Manager (CUCM)

    • Experience with Network Automation (e.g. Ansible)

    • Experience developing strategies for implementation of QoS, and Multicast

    • Experiencing with packet capture and analysis tools, NetFlow, IP SLA, etc


    Additional Qualifications:



    • Must have the ability to provide documentation verifying legal work status.

    • Ability to read and speak the English language proficiently to communicate with others, understand and interpret safety instructions, and to respond to inquiries.

    • Ability to understand and comply with ABM guidelines and expectations, to include Code of Conduct and Conflict of Interest guidelines.
