As a summer intern at Equinor, you will join 22,000 colleagues delivering oil, gas, wind, and solar power to 170 million people worldwide. The position
Our summer internship is a 6-week programme designed to provide the experience and skills you need in your studies and future career. Our Norwegian and UK internship will begin on 17 June and ends on 02 August 2024, with one week off starting 15 July.We are looking for a summer interns to join our central Design, Software and Data Science (DSD) unit within Technology Digital and Innovation (TDI). In the DSD unit we specialise in diverse fields such as Knowledge AI and Natural Language Processing (NLP). NLP is a field at the intersection of AI, Computer Science and Linguistics. Equinor data scientists use NLP to efficiently find, extract, interpret and process information hidden in text and unstructured data.
As a summer intern you will work with our NLP data scientists in the London office and join the Knowledge AI (KAI) team. The KAI team specialize in processing and interpreting unstructured data using NLP, large language models (LLMs) and AI technology. We develop successful NLP products that are used in Equinor’s production systems for operations and maintenance, safety and exploration.
You will work on an exciting project, coding and creating a prototype making use of the latest NLP technology and Large Language Models (LLMs). In addition, you will have the opportunity to learn from our business experts in an area such as Renewable Energy. Previous interns worked on a project with domain experts supporting wind farm bidding, they successfully developed a prototype using MS Azure, Python scripts, NLP and a Q&A chatbot using open news datasets.
As a summer intern you will interact with the wider Information Technology and Digitalisation departments and present your final project results. By joining our team, you will have the opportunity to:

- Currently studying for Bachelor’s, Master’s degree, or Ph.D. with a strong academic record within Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Computational Linguistics or similar
• No more than three years of relevant full-time work experience
• Have completed at least two years of higher education before the internship programme starts (17 June 2024)
• Have at least one year of higher education left after the internship programme ends (02 August 2024)
• The interns need to be located in the country where the internship takes place during its entire duration. Equinor does not support any relocation for our summer interns.
• Please note that Equinor does not support, or sponsor work or visa permits for internship applications. Candidates must have the necessary work permit/visa for the UK. Hands-on experience
