Role Summary:
The IT Infrastructure Technician holds a technical position vital for maintaining and supporting the entire IT infrastructure within LCCC. This role serves as the point of contact for addressing technical inquiries, particularly those originating from the service desk. Additionally, it provides support for any alterations to the infrastructure or project initiatives that require IT assistance.
Responsibilities also encompass the ongoing maintenance of the IT infrastructure and collaboration with the Senior IT Cloud Infrastructure Engineer to map out future requirements. Furthermore, this role collaborates with the IT Cyber Security team to oversee and support all LCCC systems and infrastructure, ensuring their security and optimal functionality.
The IT Infrastructure Technician closely collaborates with the Senior IT Cloud Infrastructure Engineer to ensure the secure and efficient operation of the LCCC environment while contributing to its ongoing enhancement. Expert guidance is extended to the service desk and any third-party suppliers as needed.
Database management is a crucial aspect of this role, encompassing the supervision, monitoring, administration, and maintenance of all SQL databases within the environment. Access and alterations to these databases are facilitated through calls logged on the service desk.
Additionally, the IT Infrastructure Technician provides technical project support for relevant projects and undertakes project-related tasks when necessary. This role also shares responsibility for supplying security-related information and assistance related to the environment, working in tandem with the IT Cyber Security Manager and the data protection team. Collaborative efforts within the team are crucial in providing comprehensive IT service and support.
Key Responsibilities
- Infrastructure Management: Oversee and maintain the LCCC hosted infrastructure (AWS & Azure), ensuring its stability, availability, and optimal performance.
- Issue Resolution: Address and escalate incidents and service requests received through the service desk system (currently JSM) efficiently and effectively.
- Cloud Automation: Design, build, and implement automation processes using Terraform and other relevant systems for Azure and AWS.
- Cloud Services Management: Deploy and provide support for Azure and AWS services.
- Infrastructure Monitoring: Conduct proactive monitoring of infrastructure and systems to identify and address potential issues not covered by other managers.
- Backup and Recovery: Maintain and regularly test backup and recovery processes to safeguard data and ensure business continuity.
- Software Updates: Manage and execute software updates to keep systems current and secure.
- Directory Services: Oversee the administration of the Active Directory and other infrastructure support systems.
- Cloud and SQL Database Support: Provide support and management for our cloud-based server environment and SQL database environment.
- Project Support: Collaborate on IT-related projects, offering technical expertise and assurance throughout their lifecycle.
- Cybersecurity Collaboration: Partner with the IT Cyber Security team to plan and implement significant changes to LCCC systems and infrastructure, prioritizing security.
- Security Remediation: Perform remediation work in response to security testing on various elements, including laptop images and infrastructure components.
- Technology Evaluation: As needed, work closely with the IT team to support the deployment of new applications or infrastructure, and participate in testing and evaluating emerging technology.
- IT Infrastructure Projects: Lead and manage IT infrastructure and technical projects to successful completion.
- Team Training and Support: Provide training and support to fellow IT team members in your specialized areas of expertise.
- Flexibility: Be prepared to take on additional duties as required by LCCC.
Skills Knowledge and Expertise
- Cloud Expertise: At least 2 years’ experience in cloud technologies, specifically AWS and Azure.
- Microsoft Technology Stack: Proficiency in the Microsoft technology stack, with a specific focus on Microsoft 365 and Intune.
- Infrastructure as Code (IaC) Knowledge: Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code methods.
- Finance Package and Contact Management Systems: Exposure to supporting financial packages and contact management systems.
- Azure and AWS Management: In-depth knowledge of managing Azure and AWS environments.
- Infrastructure Standards: Proficient in infrastructure standards and best practices relevant to the current LCCC environment.
- Database Support: Expert level knowledge in all aspects of database support, spanning various levels.
- Directory Services: Strong experience with Active Directory (AD), Azure Active Directory (AAD), and Group Policy Objects (GPO).
- System Setup and Maintenance: Skilled in setting up and maintaining PCs, servers, and software systems.
- SQL Proficiency: Expertise in SQL databases, including servers and query execution.
- Networking and Security: Proficient in networking protocols and adherence to security standards.
- Project Methodologies: Familiarity with various project methodologies for effective project management.
- Service Desk Tools: Proficient in using service desk tools, with a particular emphasis on JSM (Jira Service Management).
