Royal Holloway is looking to appoint an Assistant Director of Information Technology on a fixed term (maternity cover) basis.


This is a strategic role, ensuring the effective implementation of one of our underpinning workstreams, containing several important University-wide infrastructure-related projects, aligned with the University vision and strategy. The role will be supported by a Project Manager, but will be required to lead the teams through the initiation phases and informing the pre-market engagement exercises for these projects, ensuring effective decision-making. Whilst there are several projects in this workstream, the focus will be on some key areas such as data centre relocation, major cyber security related improvements, identity and access management and the design phase of our major network re-design programme.


As a whole, the department is responsible for the delivery of major IT-enabled transformation, and to achieve this, has 4 workstreams, each led by a member of the IT senior management team, to deliver across strategic themes.


In addition, the post-holder will manage the core operational IT services of the University.



  • Infrastructure teams;

  • Including Networks, Systems and Hybrid Cloud teams;

  • Managed Desktop;

  • Audio Visual;

  • IT Service Desk;

  • Cyber Security;

The post is based in Egham, Surrey where the University is situated in a beautiful, leafy campus near to Windsor Great Park and within commuting distance from London. However, the post holder may be required to work at any of the locations where Royal Holloway’s business is conducted, including our central London sites.
