Background
The Northern Ireland Office represents Northern Ireland interests at a UK Government level and UK Government interests in Northern Ireland. We have a wide range of responsibilities, including: underpinning political stability in Northern Ireland; overseeing the Northern Ireland devolution settlement; leading on national security policy in Northern Ireland; addressing the legacy of Northern Ireland’s past; delivering elections and constitutional reform in Northern Ireland; playing a key role in rebalancing the NI economy; representing NI interests, including on the border with Ireland,following the exit from the EU. Our small size and diverse portfolio create a stimulating, fast-paced and challenging working environment, with regular engagement with a range of Ministers and senior officials. ABOUT THE ROLE:
This is an excellent opportunity to join a team which delivers critical services that have an impact on the daily lives of our colleagues. You will be responsible for the day to day management of IT provision across the department including managing associated contracts. Responsibilities include the provision of laptops, mobile phones and video conferencing facilities. It is desirable that you will be confident and experienced in the management of the full Google suite of products. Service delivery will be through a range of shared service providers over two key sites London and Belfast. This role will provide you with an excellent opportunity to gain first hand experience across a range of IT products and services. You will be part of a team that delivers on Estates, IT and Security. You will have excellent customer and contract management skills, a can do attitude and be familiar with providing value for money services. You will also have line management responsibilities for a member of the team.
You will also work closely with the Head of Service Transformation as the department embarks on reviewing its IT provision and considering its future including in replacing laptops this financial year.
To succeed in this role, the successful applicant will need experience in delivering IT services to best practice, strong communication skills and attention to detail. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
The main responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:
- Day to day management of the relationship between the department and its IT suppliers. Including supporting the Head of Services & Estates in managing these contracts and addressing issues around service standards.
- Management of the departmental IT solution which is delivered via lightweight flexible laptops and smartphones. You will also manage the IT assets supplied for home.
- Management and maintenance of the Video conferencing facilities which operate on plug and play technology, ensuring Service Level Agreements are in place and adhered to by nominated suppliers.
- The department utilises Google as its main operating system, you will be responsible for managing all aspects of this environment. From allocating licences to working with the NIO KIM team who lead on setting up groups and assisting with information search requests using Google Vault.
- Management of all IT assets. Maintaining proactively the asset registers to enable sound financial planning for lifecycle management of phones, laptops and monitors
- Working along side our Head of Security to ensure a robust approach to cyber threats is in place across the department and adhered to by all staff.
- Maintenance of software solutions for critical alerts (Everbridge), desk booking (Matrix)and other software associated with our line of business applications. This will include managing onboarding and offboarding of the products.
- You will also be responsible for responding to FOI and PQs for the department that relate to your areas of work and expertise.
- As the lead member of the small team in London you will also be responsible for related Estates and security matters for the London offices. This can include usage of Parliamentary TV services but also incorporates some wider workspace management on an ad hoc basis.
- Day to day oversight and management of the IT budget including working to ensure the effective processing of invoices and requests.
ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:
We are seeking an individual who has a track record of using their own initiative to good effect and making fact-based decisions on service support issues. You will need to have a reputation for achieving the highest performance standards and be willing to obtain SC security clearance is not already held. You will be self-motivated, a confident communicator with strong interpersonal skills and have a commitment to continuous improvement in self and others. We are keen to employ an individual who has a desire to continue to learn and develop as an ICT professional sharing that learning with other team members and fostering others potential.
- Minimum of 2 years in the last 5 working in a IT environment providing a strong general IT background.
- Evidence of previous customer focussed roles within an IT environment ideally through IT Support or a Service Desk environment.
- Experience of delivering customer facing service and management of suppliers/contracts.
DESIRABLE CRITERIA:
- Able to demonstrate recent experience working with Google.
- Demonstrate working experience of managing video conferencing solutions
- Demonstrate an understanding of Basic Networking and supporting common technology services such as MS Office/ Google Apps/ Phones etc
- Experience of working within a Microsoft team’s environment and previous government experience would also be a benefit.

Working Arrangements & Further Information
The MoJ offers Hybrid Working arrangements where business need allows. This is an informal, non-contractual form of flexible working that blends working from your base location, different MoJ sites and / or from home (please be aware that this role can only be worked in the UK and not overseas). Some roles will not be suitable for Hybrid Working. Similarly, Hybrid Working will not suit everyone’s circumstances. Arrangements will be discussed and agreed with the successful candidate(s) and subject to regular review.
For nationally advertised roles, the successful candidate(s) will be appointed to a MoJ office location, which may include their nearest Justice Collaboration Centre or Justice Satellite Office. This will be discussed and agreed on the completion of pre-employment checks.
Some of MoJ’s terms and conditions of service are changing as part of Civil Service reform. The changes will apply to staff joining MoJ who are new to the Civil Service. Staff joining MoJ from other civil service employers will transfer onto the new MoJ terms if they are already on ‘modernised’ terms in their current post or onto ‘unmodernised’ MoJ terms if they are on ‘unmodernised’ terms at their current post.
