Job Summary


Support our consultants in saving and improving lives


You will provide comprehensive office and administrative support to three consultant haematologists. This is an excellent opportunity to support our consultants work contributing to patient care and furthering research into many aspects of blood transfusion.


You will be involved the preparation of papers for meetings, taking minutes, researching the internet for relevant literature, travel and accommodation arrangements, diary co-ordination and handling enquiries from patients, donors and medical staff in the wider NHS.


Highly organised, with excellent written and spoken communication skills, together with good keyboard skills. You’ll require experience of working in a busy office environment and possess a high level of competency in the use of Microsoft Office, including creation of spreadsheets and PowerPoint presentations.

Main duties of the job


In this role you will provide a comprehensive personal assistant service, acting as a channel of communication between the consultants you are working for and other internal and external contacts. Your responsibilities will include



  • Ensuring the smooth and efficient running of the office, enabling their trust and confidence in the timely prioritisation and action of all administrative duties

  • Supporting and deputise for other secretarial / administrative colleagues as a when required

  • Arranging meetings, producing agenda, taking minutes and chasing progress on actions and updates


On infrequent occasions you will be required to travel to other NHSBT and external sites, very occasionally requiring overnight stays. Appropriate notice will always be given


About You


Experience and Knowledge



  • Experience of working as Personal Assistant or in an administration role

  • Experience of working with Information Technology to a high level of competency using Microsoft applications, including Outlook diary management, creation of spreadsheets and PowerPoint presentations

  • Experience in producing meeting agenda, taking minutes, running bring forward systems and chasing progress on actions

  • Experience of undertaking research, preparing clear and concise reports with analysis (working with figures) and resulting recommendations

  • Experience of using office equipment



Qualifications and Training



  • Minimum of 3 GCSE grade C or above in Maths and English or equivalent qualification / experience

  • European Computer Driving Licence (ECDL) (part I & II) or ITQ2, or CLAIT II, or RSA III text or word processing OR demonstrable equivalent workplace experience

  • Demonstrates commitment to own continued professional development
