Position Title: Group Financial Controller

Location: Head Office at Meridian Grand, Enfield, with occasional travel to company sites.

Role Description: This is a senior position within the group working closely with the board and leading the finance department, overseeing all financial operations for the group's hotels and venues, with a direct impact on strategic decision-making, profitability, and long-term financial health.

About Meridian Group: Meridian Group operates a collection of hospitality venues, including four hotels and a prestigious wedding venue. A family-run operation, we began our journey in the hospitality sector with our flagship wedding and events venue, Meridian Grand in London in 2015. From 2019 onwards, we began acquiring hotel sites, including Stanton House Hotel in Wiltshire, Coniston Hotel in Sittingbourne and the Bentley Hotel in Lincoln. Renowned for excellence in service, we pride ourselves on delivering outstanding guest experiences. We are seeking a highly skilled and motivated Group Financial Controller to oversee financial operations across our venues and contribute to the ongoing success of the business. This is an exciting opportunity to shape the financial future of a rapidly expanding hospitality group.

Key Responsibilities:

Financial Oversight:

  • Provide strategic financial leadership and oversight across all group venues, ensuring robust financial management, compliance with industry standards, and alignment with business objectives.
  • Supervise and support financial controllers at each site, maintaining consistent financial standards across the group.

Financial Forecasting and Reporting:

  • Lead the preparation and continuous improvement of financial forecasts and reports, offering insights and recommendations to drive business growth and operational efficiency.
  • Produce comprehensive management accounts, profit and loss statements (P&Ls), and key performance indicator (KPI) reports.
  • Deliver timely and detailed monthly and quarterly financial reports and recommendations to the Board.

Cash Flow and Budget Management:

  • Manage and monitor cash flows across the group, ensuring liquidity and financial stability.
  • Develop and manage annual budgets in collaboration with site managers and financial controllers.

Expenditure Oversight:

  • Drive strategic expenditure management, ensuring cost efficiency, value for money, and alignment with overall group objectives, including capital expenditure (CapEx) and operating expenses.
  • Ensure contracts, such as those for linen, utilities, and food suppliers, are managed effectively and deliver both quality and cost efficiency.

Team Leadership:

  • Lead, mentor, and manage financial controllers and other finance team members to achieve departmental goals.
  • Foster a culture of collaboration, professional development, and high performance within the finance team.

Compliance and Internal Controls:

  • Ensure adherence to all financial regulations and company policies.
  • Implement and maintain robust internal control systems to safeguard company assets and financial integrity.

Site Collaboration:

  • Collaborate with site teams to understand operational needs and provide financial insights to enhance profitability.
  • Conduct occasional site visits to provide hands-on support and ensure alignment with head office financial strategies.

Key Requirements:

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Significant experience (5+ years) in a senior finance or financial management role within the hospitality or multi-site retail sectors, with a proven ability to manage large-scale budgets and financial operations.
  • Professional accounting qualification (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent) is essential.
  • Strong track record of producing financial forecasts, P&Ls, and management accounts.

Skills and Competencies:

· Software & Systems Proficiency: Experience with hospitality-specific financial systems (e.g., RezControl, RezLynx, Amadeus) as well as Xero, advanced Excel and financial modelling skills.

· Skills & Competencies: Strong knowledge of hotel industry financial benchmarks and KPIs (e.g., RevPAR, GOPPAR) to drive operational and financial decision-making.

· Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with a keen eye for detail.

· Outstanding people management and leadership skills, with the ability to inspire and develop a high-performing team.

· Strong communication skills, with the ability to convey financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.

  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple priorities effectively.
