Role Summary
As a member of our Strategic Marketing team and closely aligned with the Institutional Sales team, the Marketing Executive uses data, customer insight and pre-developed marketing strategy to deliver a highly effective marketing program based on clearly defined objectives aligned to the growth of our institutional-facing business strategy.
Responsibilities
Campaign planning and deployment
- Manage and execute strategic sales and marketing campaigns, aligned with our institutional business priorities.
- Manage a customer acquisition and retention program aligned to our institutional business strategy
- Working with Sales and Recruitment support the onboarding and retention of new library partners
- Support the sales team and external vendors with sales and marketing materials
- Ensure timely communication with our library partners on key organizational developments and offering
- Taking the pre-defined strategy, create a tactical deployment plan, integrated with the systems, processes, and tools of the broader MarComms team, finding effective ways to mechanize and automate communications where relevant.
- Develop effective, targeted, value-based messaging into campaign copy based on a data-driven understanding & assessment of institutional partner needs, making adjustments as necessary based on regional needs.
- Consider opportunities for other campaign assets and communications as part of the strategy such as case studies, white papers and webinars.
- Evaluate customer and competitive research, market conditions, sales performance and results; and effect plan changes as needed.
- Deliver campaigns in a timely manner and adopting a test and learn approach consider campaign ROI and further campaign optimisation opportunities.
Research & Evaluation
- Measure campaign results through use of reporting tools and metrics and consider opportunities for optimisation and automation as part of campaign development
- Report leads, insights and key learning to the Sales team and broader MarComms team where appropriate
- Keep up to date on developments in library communities, identify new venues for marketing and community engagement.
Collaboration & Management
- Work collaboratively with stakeholders across the organization to understand ongoing strategic priorities across the business.
- Proactively work with external stakeholders and vendors to ensure timely and up-to-date communication of PLOS products and alignment to the PLOS brand.
- Adopt a horizon scanning approach, communicating future opportunities to key stakeholders with MarComms and the Strategic Partnerships team.
Knowledge and Skills
- Demonstrable experience in academic journals' marketing including experience or understanding of library marketing and with an understanding of the Open Science movement.
- Experience in executing successful digital marketing strategies with integrated, cross-channel content, focusing particular attention on scalability and ROI.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
- Prolonged periods stationary at a desk and working on a computer
- Some national and international travel may/will be required
- Some flexibility to work across time zones
The base salary range we've established for this position is (UK) £35,000 - £47,000. PLOS also offers a comprehensive benefits package summarized below.
