Cost Consultant - Rail Sector Full Time

The project:

As a cost consultant you will be responsible for the management of commercial aspects of the business area including supporting pre-contract and operations, managing commercial risk and opportunity, ensuring accuracy of forecasts and that all commercial reporting procedures are adhered to.

Supporting the delivery of projects providing pre award, procurement and post award contract administration support, monitoring compliance with contract obligations and driving value from the supply chain.

Provision of a "cradle to grave" commercial function for all work packages making up the commission.

You’ll be responsible for:

  • Conducting feasibility studies, advising on procurement strategies and contract selection, writing and undertaking procurement reports. Applying the value management techniques at the outset of a project.
  • Managing, estimating and cost planning activities to include taking ownership of and presenting the final cost plan.
  • Ensuring that final accounts are negotiated and agreed.
  • Being a key interface with client, stakeholders and other consultants at all project stages.
  • Handling of contractual frameworks and standard form of contract.
  • Identifying and acting upon opportunities to improve cost management procedures, templates, products and hence improve the services provided to the clients.
  • Identifying and acting upon ways to improve internal systems and processes.

You’ll need to have:

  • Transport for London or network rail experience.
  • SAP Experience.
  • Experience of PRISM cost management system.
  • Ability to synthesise data and articulate forecasting and budget variances.
  • Experience of managing change control processes.
  • Management of cost reporting process.
  • Power BI dashboard development.

You’ll also have:

  • Degree in quantity surveying/cost management (or equivalent).
  • Professional membership or working towards i.e. MRICS/RICS (or equivalent), or equivalent demonstrable professional or personal development.
  • Commercial and financial acumen.
  • Knowledge of value engineering, life cycle costing, contract law and contractual frameworks relating to construction.
  • Experience of managing parts of projects within large, diverse teams.
  • Experience of developing relationships with key senior stakeholders.
  • Knowledge of how carbon and sustainability considerations will shape the outlook of the projects you are working on.
