The successful candidate will join our 600+ strong team, contributing to scientific discovery and generating the data, insights and solutions that researchers, businesses and governments need to solve complex environmental challenges.

You’ll be joining our dedicated IT Support Team spread across our four sites! You’ll be providing fundamental support to our scientists and professional service teams. If you’re proactive, solutions-focused and want to forge an exciting career in the world of IT, contributing to protecting the environment, we want to hear from you!
A strong customer service background is essential as you will be the first point of contact for IT across the organisation. You’ll be responding to user queries and issues in a timely manner, whilst escalating tickets when required.
You’ll be joining a leading independent, not-for-profit research institute that’s committed to recruiting talented people like you, progressing your career and giving you the support you need to thrive at UKCEH.
Your main responsibilities will include:
  • Logging tickets, notes and resolutions in the IT Ticket System
  • Install, configure and repair client hardware, including operating system and client software
  • Configuration and maintenance of network printing and multi-function devices
  • Assist in the deployment of new software and resolution of any local issues relating to LAN/WAN
  • Support with patching, updates and ensuring compliance with the UKCEH security policies
  • New employee IT inductions
  • Administer, maintain and provide training on hardware, applications and telecoms
  • Work collaboratively with other IT and business teams
  • Supporting other areas within IT of project-based tasks

Although we are looking for someone with experience working in a helpdesk environment, we are invested in your development and therefore you will have plenty of opportunities to expand your knowledge and ability here.
For the role of IT Helpdesk Support, we’re looking for somebody who has:
  • Previous IT Support experience
  • Demonstrable Route Cause Analysis skills
  • Excellent customer service skill, developed within a busy working environment
  • An interest and passion for IT
  • A strong attention to detail
  • Confident talking to a range of stakeholders
  • Familiar with maintenance and administration of Windows Client, server operating systems and Microsoft Active Directory (Desirable)
  • The use of a centralized helpdesk call logging environment (Desirable)
  • Knowledge of working in a virtualized environment such as VMware (Desirable)
  • Understanding of file access and management in WAN/LAN environment (Desirable)
