We’re looking for a Technical Services Manager (Security) to lead our security operations function, ensuring the overall safety and protection of our data, systems, and people.
This is a fantastic opportunity for someone wanting to help enhance our security posture, lead our security operations team and support both IT and the wider organisation in continuous security improvements through advice, guidance, and support at all levels.
What it’s like to work here:You’ll be leading our security operations team, developing their skills and capabilities to further improve visibility, detection, and response. Reporting to the Head of Cyber Security and Infrastructure Operations to deliver the strategic goals and identified objectives across the security operations function.
Your contractual location will be our head office in Swindon and there will be an expectation for you to attend the office. However, there is flexibility on where you are based at other times. You will be required to work at a National Trust location for 40-60% of your working week. This will be discussed in more detail at interview.
What you’ll be doing:As the Security Operations lead, you’ll play a pivotal role in safeguarding us from cyber threats by actively influencing and guiding stakeholders at all levels. This includes owning the Security Incident Response Plan, becoming part of the on-call rota, serving as the escalation point for all security-related incidents, and managing key third-party relationships—most notably the 24/7/365 outsourced Security Operations Centre.
In this role, you’ll evaluate and enhance existing technical capabilities and systems, and establish an operational baseline supported by clear metrics and KPIs to drive governance, quality, and efficiency. You’ll also develop and support strategic initiatives to meet Security Operation goals, cultivate a deep understanding of operational risks, and ensure effective responses to minimise their impact.
Strong internal and external relationships are essential, particularly with the in-house Information Security and Data Protection teams, as well as cross-functional teams such as Hosting, Networks, Digital, and User Technology Services.
By collaborating with the Information Security Team on Governance, Risk, and Compliance and regularly reporting security metrics to senior management, you’ll offer strong leadership and direction. You’ll guide the delivery of diverse security projects, ranging from small implementations to large-scale technology rollouts and represent us through active engagement in industry conferences and seminars, taking advantage of speaking opportunities to advance the organisation’s security posture.
Who we’re looking forTo succed in this role, you’ll need;
- Good understanding of Cybersecurity Frameworks such as NCSC and NIST 2.0.
- Good understanding of security processes, tools and implementations.
- Strong operational knowledge across all roles within the Security operations function.
- In-depth knowledge of security concepts such as cyber-attacks and techniques, threat vectors, risk management and incident management.
- Proven ability to leverage Mitre ATT&CK framework, for implementing Security monitoring & detection controls.
- Strong knowledge of both on prem and cloud security technologies, such as firewalls, intrusion detection and prevention systems, and security information and event management systems from vendors such as Microsoft and Cisco.
- Experience leading, managing and mentoring a security team, providing guidance and support in carrying out their responsibilities.
- Recognized industry certification such a CISSP or CISM.
