Role Overview
Are you passionate about the built environment and eager to develop hands-on skills in cost management? As an Apprentice Cost Manager, you’ll gain real-world experience working alongside industry experts, supporting a wide range of construction projects.
This apprenticeship blends office-based responsibilities with project exposure, equipping you with the commercial, analytical, and problem-solving skills needed to manage costs effectively. With structured mentorship and professional development, you’ll be on the path to becoming a fully qualified Chartered Quantity Surveyor (MRICS).
At RLB, we are proud to partner with the University College of Estate Management (UCEM) to deliver the Quantity Surveying Degree Apprenticeship. This structured programme combines academic learning with practical experience, leading to a BSc (Hons) in Quantity Surveying and the Assessment of Professional Competence (APC) with the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS).
Key Responsibilities
Cost Estimation & Budgeting:
- Assist in preparing cost estimates and budgets for construction projects.
- Support cost planning exercises, helping to ensure projects are delivered within financial constraints.
- Learn about procurement processes and contract administration.
- Assist in preparing tender documents and evaluating contractor bids.
- Support the preparation of cost reports, identifying financial risks and opportunities.
- Learn how to track and manage project expenditure, ensuring value for money.
- Work closely with clients, contractors, and colleagues to ensure cost-effective project delivery.
- Develop strong communication and negotiation skills to support commercial decision-making.
We’re looking for motivated individuals with a keen interest in construction, finances, and understanding how buildings come together. The ideal candidate will be:
- Enthusiastic about working in a commercial environment and managing costs.
- A strong communicator who enjoys collaborating with colleagues and clients.
- Eager to learn and develop technical knowledge in construction and cost management.
- Organised with good attention to detail and an analytical mindset.
- A fully funded degree apprenticeship with UCEM, leading to a BSc (Hons) in Quantity Surveying.
- Mentorship and training from experienced Cost Managers to support your Assessment of Professional Competence (APC).
- Hands-on experience across a diverse range of construction projects.
