Macmillan Cancer Support Worker Full Time

This is a 12-month vacancy to cover maternity leave. The Leukaemia Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) team seeks a highly motivated Macmillan Cancer Support Worker (MCSW) to work within team of clinical nurse specialists and support workers. The MCSW offers support to patients with blood cancer and their carers during diagnosis, treatment and follow up.

We are looking for individuals with excellent communication skills who would enjoy the challenges of working within the cancer environment. The successful applicant will be self-motivated, compassionate, resilient, and willing to develop their skills and knowledge further. A qualification in health care work and administrative skills are essential.

We offer a training package with group clinical supervision and peer support.

Informal visits prior to application or interview are encouraged.

Your typical day will involve providing verbal and written information, assessment and support to patients and families- both in person and over the telephone. A large part of the role will be assisting the CNS to coordinate the care for patients undergoing treatment. You will be supported by a team of other MCSWs and work under the direction of the clinical nurse specialists. The role works within a variety of inpatient and outpatient settings and there is an administrative component of work. You will have the opportunity to develop written information packages for patients, signpost patients to services, perform holistic needs assessments and deliver continuity of care and support.
