ABOUT THE BLUEY BRAND



Since its initial premier in Australia during 2018, Bluey has gone on to become a dominant global entertainment franchise generating an estimated $2billion in retail value and was the number one most watched show (of all shows) in America during 2024. Bluey is produced by Ludo Studio Productions in Australia, and with the distribution rights to commercialise the brand globally BBC Studios has played a pivotal role in successfully developing partnerships and growing audiences around the world. Bluey reaches audiences through broadcast partnerships, consumer products, home entertainment, live events, gaming, books, magazines, music and digital platforms.


BBC Studios and The Walt Disney Company recently announced the first-ever animated feature film for Bluey. The new deal sees Disney acquiring the global theatrical rights for the film, which will land in cinemas in 2027.


With the significant global expansion and growth of the Bluey brand we have an exciting opportunity for a Financial Business Analyst to join the Brands & Licensing finance team on a 12-month fixed term contract. This newly created role will report into the Head of Commercial Finance for Consumer Products and Licensing, and will become a subject matter expert on all financial aspects of the Bluey brand, playing a pivotal role in maintaining a clear and consistent understanding of the brand’s performance and forward-looking plans.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting, forecasting and budgeting


  • Prepare the global Bluey P&L and cash flow as part of monthly, quarterly forecast and budget / long-range planning cycles. Collaboration with divisional, regional and central finance teams to understand the Bluey elements of their reporting submissions, developing a strong understanding of key contract terms, revenue models, terms related third party payaways as well as understanding overheads such as marketing and staff costs.
  • Design a suite of new monthly reporting including both standard financial reporting, as well as collate the right KPIs to support the business in assessing the health of the brand
  • Update the monthly BBCS Commercial Board pack with monthly Bluey results.
  • Own the preparation of Bluey specific slides and narrative included in forecast, budget / long range plan packs that are presented to the Studios Executive Committee on a quarterly basis.
  • Track and report a global view of the Central Marketing Fund available to spend on Bluey marketing campaigns.
  • Track the global marketing recoupment position versus recommended budgets, and work with the Bluey marketing team to develop marketing spend scenarios to pre-empt whether there is a need to scale up or scale down marketing campaign activity depending on revenue forecasts.
  • Maintain an up-to-date view on resourcing that supports Bluey across the business to inform staff cost overheads estimates for the brand.
  • Collaborate with the content partnerships and talent accounting teams to align on consistency of assumptions within forward looking models.
  • On a fortnightly basis, track investment spends related to the Bluey movie versus the business case and contract, reporting to the key stakeholders.
  • Collaborate with internal production accounting in the review of how the movie production company is tracking versus the investment budget.


Contribution to Bluey Steering committees and action groups


  • Participate in the Bluey Steering Committee, Bluey Action Groups as well as Movie Working Committees.
  • Prepare all Bluey Steering Committee Packs and resolve follow up actions in a timely manner.
  • Ensure all financial targets included in the Bluey Action group’s KPI tracker are aligned to the latest results, forecasts, budgets and long-range plan.

Analysis & Insight


  • Deliver effective financial and business analytical support as requested by stakeholders and for any brand specific divisional projects/business initiatives
  • Effectively bring together a range of financial data and commercial Key Performance Indicators (such as volume of gaming downloads, book sales, licensing deals, album streams, YouTube subscribers and viewing volumes etc) to highlight Bluey’s business performance, risks, underlying business trends or themes that need to be discussed.
  • Collaborate with finance and commercial teams who are preparing Bluey related business cases / investment proposals and contribute relevant inputs into financial modelling.
  • Promote and deliver improvements through identifying and recommending opportunities for efficiencies and value generation.


Business Support


  • Provide recommendations in a timely manner to both finance and business teams across BBCS on how to resolve key financial and business issues related to Bluey.
  • Recommend and implement process improvement to continually improve the control environment of the brands financial reporting, processes and practices that will give the business confidence in the support they receive for the brand.
  • Research and share external industry knowledge on other prominent Kids & Family brands to help develop Finance’s approach in supporting the business in making effective decisions.
  • Maintain effective and collaborative working relationships across the Finance and business community
  • Ensure Finance Business Analysts and the relevant Finance teams are informed of issues, analysis and decisions that impact them or require their support/views.
  • Collaborate with commercial, marketing, finance, legal, group finance, content partnerships, talent accounting, production accounting, content strategy, corporate development and strategy teams

WHAT DOES IT TAKE?

ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:


  • A professional accounting qualification. e.g. CIMA, ACA, ACCA, or equivalent
  • Experience delivering high-quality management information reporting, analytics and modelling.
  • Ability to interpret contracts and apply these to financial business case and forecasting models.
  • Ability to take complex data/principles and to communicate these in an understandable way.
  • Highly developed written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with a range of stakeholders.

DESIRABLE CRITERIA:


  • A CIMA qualification and related experience would be desirable but not essential versus ACCA, ACA or equivalent.
  • Experience in the media and entertainment industry.
  • Experience in a large global matrix organisational environment.
  • Familiarity with licensing business models.

PACKAGE DESCRIPTION


Job Reference: 21067
Band: D
Contract type: 12 month FTC
Salary: £51,000-£58,000 depending on relevant skills, knowledge and experience, plus London Weighting of £5,319. The expected salary range for this role reflects internal benchmarking and external market insights.
Location: Office Base is London Television Centre. This is a hybrid role and the successful candidate will balance office working with home working.
