Marketing Team

The Marketing team has a very wide-reaching brief within the LNER Commercial team.

We want to grow our brand through our marketing activity and make LNER the automatic choice for a journey along our route. Getting even more customers to travel with us rather than other modes of transport.

Once a customer does travel with us, we want to turn that purchase into preference, getting them to travel with us time and time again.

Role Overview

Reporting into the Head of Marketing, our Senior Advertising and Partnerships Manager role is pivotal within the Marketing team and is responsible for leading, developing and delivering our advertising and partnerships strategy. Ensuring marketing adds value to LNER by identifying customer demand, developing and communicating the proposition, and delivering work that achieves revenue, journey and brand targets.

Our Senior Advertising and Partnerships Manager will be responsible for c£25m of budget to deliver in excess of £60m revenue, plus be accountable for managing key agency contracts including creative and media.

Over 2025, this role will lead on some major projects for LNER from an advertising perspective which includes, the marketing communications plan for the launch of our new timetable and also the delivery of a large live action shoot that will provide us with our next TV advert, plus creative assets for many other marketing communications channels.

This role will lead the strategy and implementation of all advertising activity throughout the year, both in digital and offline channels. Delivering the right message to the right customer at the right time and maximising the returns we get on our investment. They will oversee our brand partnerships strategy. Managing our brand partnerships team, supporting them in extending our reach and effectively embedding LNER in some of the communities we serve.

What else will I be responsible for in this role?

  • Leading and managing a unified advertising and partnerships team (a team of five), setting the strategy and delivering multi-channel communications and impactful brand partnerships to drive customer acquisition, revenue growth and increased brand awareness.
  • Bringing the LNER proposition to life in a distinctive way that will make LNER stand out from the crowd and resonate impactfully with our key target audiences.
  • You will be the ambassador for the advertising creative system, evolving this through time and ensuring all work is on brand.
  • Developing strong agency relationships, challenging and inspiring them to fully understand and deliver against our business goals and fostering a collaborative relationship to create a ‘one team' culture.
  • Managing and being accountable for the advertising and partnerships budget. Responsible for working closely with the Revenue team to robustly forecast spend and revenue return against targets, and the Finance Partner to account for all spend against budget.
  • Building and maintaining a robust understanding of customer needs, behaviours, and headroom opportunity and translate these into communication proof points.
  • Working closely with the CEM and Digital team on the customer data collection strategy and optimisation of traffic to LNER digital channels.
  • Establishing relationships across the wider business to help identify opportunities for marketing to promote or educate customers on product and service developments.
  • Setting SMART objectives and targets, measuring performance and learning from results to establish culture of continuous improvement.

Does this sound like the right opportunity for you?

Of course, as this is a pivotal role in the business, we are looking for someone who will already have proven experience in advertising and campaign management with a thorough understanding of offline and online channels. You'll also have;

  • Business related qualification (diploma, degree or equivalent qualification or equivalent experience).
  • Budget management experience of £7m+.
  • A strong understanding of brand partnerships and the value they can bring.
  • Large shoot experience.
  • Agency Management experience including contract management.
  • Comprehensive understanding of campaign analysis including brand tracking and econometrics measurement.
  • Ability to distil feedback and provide strategic clarity.
  • Proven team leadership skills and the desire to develop team members.
  • Excellent interpersonal, influencing, stakeholder management and presentation skills.
  • Numerate; able to prepare detailed business cases and scenarios for improvement of customer acquisition and retention.
  • Excellent project management skills.
