Job description

The Financial Reporting function are looking for an outstanding applicant with the required experience, skills and personal qualities for a Higher Executive Officer (HEO) Annual Report and Accounts Production Officer role, within the Financial Reporting team.

This is an important and dynamic role requiring the ability to work as part of a team to deliver the Departmental Group Annual Reports and Accounts (ARA), focusing on the design and production of the document. It is an excellent opportunity to play an important and active role in the production of the Departmental Group accounts and build strong relationships with wider partners.

As part of the Financial Reporting team you would lead on producing the publishable ARA document using the InDesign software package, in addition to a variety of other roles detailed in the key responsibilities.

You will be entitled to the benefits of working for the civil service including flexible working and the option to join the civil service pension scheme. Along with 25 days annual leave, growing by 1 day for each year of service up to 30 days leave entitlement.

About the team


DSIT Financial Reporting and Controls is a central team within the Finance Directorate that support the Core Department and its Arm’s Length Bodies. It is divided into three individual smaller teams: Financial Accounting, Financial Reporting, and Financial Controls and Assurance. This role sits within Financial Reporting.

Person specification

Key Responsibilities

Key responsibilities will include:

1 – Leading on production of the departments Annual Report and Accounts (ARA) within InDesign software, delivering at pace during the intensive annual accounts cycle
2 – Leading engagement with our colleagues in Integrated Corporate Services to ensure our new system under development will work well for accounts production
3 – Leading on the ARA governance statements for our upcoming Matrix project
4 – Utilising IT and communication skills to take forward work on a video explainer of the ARAs, working with internal stakeholders
5 – Supporting other team members with additional accounts preparation activities as needed

Skills and Experience


The successful post holder will be able to deliver at pace, whilst working together with a range of partners, to ensure timely production of our ARAs. They will be able to quickly build their skill level within the InDesign software package to create a professional document meeting all required specifications.

The successful post holder will be a driven, collaborative colleague, with good attention to detail, the experience of working to tight deadlines and the ability and communication skills to build strong working relationships at all levels across DSIT. You will be passionate about great public services and delivering on the DSIT objectives.

We do not require the post holder to currently hold or be working towards an accountancy qualification, although we are looking for a candidate who would be willing to work towards an accountancy qualification in the future. Knowledge and understanding of financial reporting would benefit the post holders ability within the role.


Essential Skills:
  • Experience of IT focused projects in the finance area, working in any specific application or software
  • Adequate Excel skills
  • Willingness to working towards an accountancy qualification

Desirable Skills:
  • Experience using In-Design applications
  • Understanding of Oracle systems including the operating environment, eg. EPM and CDM.
  • Understanding of the central government matrix programme
