Job Summary: Oversees a team of individuals who analyzes, designs, creates and implements database configurations based on application designs and specifications, including data models, logical and physical databases, data dictionaries and schemas, access methods, device allocations, validation checks, organization and security. Manages the database administration team that support systems and applications development to optimize applications. What's in it for you? Principal Responsibilities:
  • Manages a team of individuals who defines, creates, installs, maintains and upgrades department and/or enterprise databases within a variety of computing environments.
  • Oversees the designs, implementations, and maintenance of databases, including job control language, access methods, access time, device allocation, validation checks, reorganization, protection, and statistical methods and size estimates of databases.
  • Coordinates the analysis, tests, and implements physical and logical database design supporting various business applications.
  • Ensures that data recovery, maintenance, data integrity, and space requirements for physical database are met and plans and procedures are developed and followed.
  • Reviews SQL coding for reusability, performance and stability within application design and support phase of projects.
  • Manages and administers databases across multiple platforms and computing environments at the business unit/group level.
  • Oversees the maintenances of the database support tools, database tables and dictionaries, recovery and backup procedures, performs capacity planning and reporting, performs environment refreshes, and related activities.
  • Coordinates with stakeholders regarding the analysis and resolutions issues related to information flow and content.
  • Manages the database monitoring and tuning, completes performance and tuning reviews, makes recommendations and reorganizes database structures.
  • Defines and develops database standards, procedures and related documentation.
  • Ensures solutions meet business objectives and establish and maintain a high level of user trust and confidence in the department’s knowledge of, and concern for, users’ business needs.
  • Provides oversight and direction regarding assigned team, financial and operational activities.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Manages experienced, professional employees and/or supervisors; and/or manages large, complex technical and/or business support teams. Accountable for the performance and results of a team and/or department.
  • Interprets and administers policies, processes and procedures that affect direct reports and the workflow of the team/department. Adapts departmental plans and priorities to address resource and operational challenges. Contributes to budget development and performance standards of department and direct reports.
  • Assignments are defined in the form of objectives. Decisions are guided by policies, procedures, business plans and independent judgment.
  • Collaborates with team(s), customers/ clients, functional peer group managers and occasionally senior management. Participates and presents at meetings with internal and external representatives.
  • Decisions may have impact on work processes and outcomes. Erroneous decisions or recommendations may result in serious delays and considerable expenditures of additional time, people and/or financial resources.

Work Experience:
  • Typically 5+ years including 2+ years of supervisory experience
