Our Gallagher Specialty team is looking for an experienced Risk Engineer to join their team and provide dedicated expertise to their power clients
The role involves managing client risk engineering accounts of all sizes and complexity, and requires a thorough knowledge of the relevant industry sector.
Your goal will be to put the interests of the client / broking team and integrity of the insurance market at the core of the risk engineering business.
- Use your excellent knowledge of industry sector operating practices, procedures, fire systems, international codes & standards
- You will be considered an expert in a variety of areas; resolve sensitive and/or complex issues with little precedent; suggest improvements to processes and solutions
- You will typically act as a lead by coordinating and accomplishing work with minimal supervision and regularly exercise discretion and judgment
- Serve as a resource for best practices and quality
- Be autonomous in managing own work and projects and reviewing the work performed by others.
- Arrange individual risk engineering surveys through discussions with account teams, clients and market engineers
- Coordinate and manage the execution of surveys on a global basis to the satisfaction of clients
- Prepare marketing reports to assist in the placement of client insurance programmes
- Market reports will follow the Gallagher standard structure and contain a key understanding of the hazards at facilities and how the management team are controlling/mitigating their impact
- Develop risk improvement recommendations, ensuring that proposed recommendations are clear and appropriate and are balanced between the interests of the client and insurers
- Preparation of EML (estimated maximum loss) calculations using latest PD/BI valuations
- Support broker teams at renewal meetings and provide risk engineering support as necessary
Account Risk Engineering activities:
- Ensure the client and broker teams are appraised and understand the scope of risk engineering work required.
- Understand the account specifics such as available engineering fee, renewal date and engineering activities required etc.
- Ensure that all reports and other deliverables are prepared in a timely manner.
- Identify and produce value-added services on accounts where possible.
- Maintain technical competency in industry sector and keep up-to-date with risk management developments (e.g. attend seminars, review technical publications, etc.).
- Represent Gallagher professionally on business trips and meetings.
- Comply with all Gallagher company policies, practices and procedures.
- Educated to degree level in an engineering discipline (e.g. mechanical, electrical)
- Power industry experience coupled with insurance broker and/or underwriter experience
- Willing to travel internationally and visit the London office as required (e.g. once per week)
- Able to work to agreed deadlines and prioritise workload based on team needs
- Long term aspirations to contribute to the growth of the team
