Netflix is one of the world’s leading entertainment services with 278 million paid memberships in over 190 countries enjoying TV series, films and games across a wide variety of genres and languages. Members can play, pause and resume watching as much as they want, anytime, anywhere, and can change their plans at any time.

The Role

Netflix derives a significant competitive advantage from the highly analytical approach it takes to managing all aspects of the business. The Finance & Strategy team leverages internal and external data to develop best-in-class metrics, tools, analysis, insights and reporting for many business functions, including the Public Policy and Music teams. This team supports deal negotiation and strategy, guides prioritization efforts, and communicates the financial impact of key decisions across the company, partnering closely with the senior leadership of Netflix who depend heavily on the insights we provide to inform business decisions.

This exciting and challenging role will provide insight into the strategy setting and operational execution for two global teams: Public Policy and Music. One - the Public Policy team - helps business leaders understand and navigate regulations across every market Netflix operates, on topics ranging from cultural regulations, internet policy, privacy and data security, competition policy, intellectual property, commerce and payments, taxation, and economic incentives and content production. The other team - the distribution side of the Music Licensing group - is responsible for structuring and negotiating agreements with collective management organizations (“CMOs”) all over the world. Most of the CMOs that Netflix works with license music rights, but some manage other types of authors’ or performers’ rights. The successful candidate will build and manage financial models to support the CMO team at a global, macro level and for specific deals, and in doing so will learn the specifics of rights valuation and licensing of complex Intellectual Property rights.

The role is based in London and will report to the Director, Finance & Strategy leading Public Policy and Music support globally.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Understanding Netflix’s business deeply to assess the impact of market-specific regulatory developments or deals in the Music space, partnering with global and local executives on issues across a broad range of functions

  • Conducting market research and competitive benchmarking across VOD landscape

  • Developing strategic frameworks to guide decision making and prioritization

  • Regularly presenting analyses and reports on financial impact in an easy-to-understand format to senior business leaders

  • Compiling post-mortem analyses to identify areas for optimization and improvement

  • Working cross-functionally with other Finance and Strategy teams globally and regionally

Qualifications:

Netflix is growing fast with a flat organizational structure, which means that employees are often asked to perform tasks with a range of difficulties. The ideal candidate will be prepared to regularly “roll up their sleeves” to perform more mundane tasks on the same day that they present to the executives of the company. A successful candidate possesses:

  • Curiosity, motivation, discipline, and the ability to work autonomously

  • An ability to remain highly organized in a loosely structured, fast-paced environment

  • Interest in the entertainment industry (film, television, music)

  • Superb financial modeling and framework development skills with extensive experience conducting quantitative and qualitative analysis, and an ability to sort through complex data to crystallize business implications

  • Extremely high attention to detail

  • Exceptional communication skills with the ability to build relationships with people across all levels and an present complex analyses to executives/senior management clearly and concisely

  • Prior experience (at least 2-3 years) in management or economic consulting, investment banking, or an equivalent analytical role
