The Head of Finance is a senior management role responsible for overseeing the business's financial activities, ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial information, and providing strategic financial guidance to support business objectives. The primary responsibilities include financial planning and analysis, forecasting, financial reporting, developing strategies to maximise ROI, and ensuring the company’s financial reports are accurate and comply with all laws and regulations. Overall, the Head of Finance role is crucial in steering the company's financial direction, ensuring sound financial planning, management, and reporting while also playing a strategic role in the company’s growth and development.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
- Leadership & Development: Lead, mentor, and develop the finance team, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous learning.
- Financial Reporting: Oversee accurate and timely preparation of monthly management accounts and financial reports, analysing performance against budgets and forecasts.
- Audit & Compliance: Manage the preparation of annual statutory accounts and maintain relationships with external auditors.
- Budgeting & Planning: Lead the budgeting and long-term financial planning process, preparing annual and five-year plans.
- Business Partnering: Collaborate with functional heads to provide financial insights, support budget control, and drive financial updates.
- Process Improvement: Streamline processes, document procedures, and implement efficient tools and systems.
- Internal Controls: Design and implement financial policies and procedures to maintain strong internal controls and safeguard assets.
- Operations Management: Oversee day-to-day accounting operations, including AP, AR, payroll, and general ledger activities.
- Systems Evaluation: Evaluate and improve financial systems, implementing new solutions to enhance reporting and drive process improvements.
- Financial Analysis: Provide insightful financial analysis, highlight opportunities, and support the Finance Director in approving financial proposals for investment or other business improvement activities.
- Cashflow & Tax Management: Manage cashflow, prepare statements, and ensure tax compliance, including VAT, corporate tax, and R&D claims.
- Stakeholder Relations: Develop financial strategy and manage relationships with internal and external stakeholders (Keolis (UK) Limited, Amey Rail Limited, Keolis SA, Docklands Light Railway Limited, Transport for London, key suppliers and other senior stakeholders).
- Ad-Hoc Projects: Lead and participate in ad-hoc finance projects as needed.
- Board Reporting: Refine KPIs, prepare board materials, and support other activities as needed for the Joint Venture Board.
- Increase efficiency: Champion visualisation software such as PowerBI to enable the analysis of large amounts of data quickly and accurately, identifying areas for improvement and optimising financial strategies more efficiently.
ESSENTIAL / DESIRABLE EXPERIENCE / QUALIFICATIONS

- Qualified accountant
Experience:
- Significant post-qualification experience in senior finance roles as a Finance Business Partner or Head of Finance
- Strong knowledge of corporate finance and accounting principles
- Proven experience in budget preparation, setting, monitoring and financial forecasting.
- Excellent leadership skills with the ability to build, inspire and motivate the finance team
- Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain effective relationships, work effectively across
function teams and support senior stakeholders both internally and externally
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and strategic thinking skills
- Experience of liaising with auditors, business advisers and board members
- Effective communications skills with the ability to analyse, interpret, and communicate complex data to a wide audience outside of the finance function and other key senior stakeholders and inspire confidence in taking relevant stakeholders methodically through complex financial information
