About Big C

As a local cancer charity, Big C are dedicated to supporting anyone affected by cancer in Norfolk and neighbouring counties whilst working with key partners in research and healthcare to improve future outcomes.

Big C has raised over £40 million since the charity was founded in 1980; £20 million in the past seven years alone. On average, £3 million is raised each year by Big Cs loyal supporters. Income is also generated via our Big C charity shops across the region.

There are an estimated 2.5 million people living with cancer in the UK. 1 in 2 people will get cancer in their lifetime. Big C seeks and implements new approaches and projects to make sure that no one is missing out on the opportunity to access our support.

Big Cs work focuses on 6 key areas:

  • Support for people affected by cancer

  • Equipment provision for the regions main acute hospital trusts
  • Education provision of interventional and presentational education programmes
  • Income Generation raising vital funds to improve the lives of people living with cancer
  • People Big C service users, their loved ones, Big C trustees, staff, volunteers and fundraisers

About the role

As Big Cs Health Academy Lead, you will join a small but busy team. In this interesting and varied role, you will develop and deliver the agreed vision and strategy for Big Cs Health Academy. Also, you will oversee Health Academy projects including, Get Moving, Walking Football and the coordination of wellbeing events. This role has line management responsibility of a small team employees and volunteers.

As a successful candidate, you will have good leadership skills with proven ability to supervise and lead a small team, experience in community wellbeing engagement projects or similar health educational programmes and experience in designing and delivering education or training. The right candidate will have an enthusiasm to support people to improve their health and wellbeing and able to harness successful relationships with external and internal stakeholders.

You will be based at Big Cs Norwich Support and Information centres including the Centre on Norfolk and Norwich University grounds and Dereham Road (to be discussed and agreed with successful candidate). The team are currently hybrid working with a blend of home and office. Work from other Big C premises or public events will be required regularly.

The working hours are 28 hours per week. Hours may be worked flexibly as agreed to meet operational needs but will generally be between Monday to Friday with occasional weekend and evening events with notice.

The salary is £25,147.71 to £27,751.21 full time equivalent (£20,118.17 to £22,200.96 at 28 hours per week).
