Engagement and Stakeholder Manager Full Time

We are looking for a creative and experienced Engagement and Stakeholder Manager to join our Strategy and Transformation Directorate.

For this role, you will bring strong experience of leading public and patient engagement in the NHS or linked organisations. You will have excellent communication and relationship building skills, able to work with partners to co-create content and engagement plans for service users, staff and communities. You will share our commitment to listening to service users, carers, families, partner organisations and community members, and building trust with the diverse communities we serve.

The Engagement and Stakeholder Manager is a key part of a small team and works with a broad range of stakeholders, often working independently and to their own initiative to identify opportunities for improving our approach to engagement.

The post holder will lead on the delivery and ongoing development of the Trust’s programme of strategic community engagement. They will use a variety of approaches to involve different stakeholders in the Trust’s strategic work, with the ultimate aim of improving access, outcomes and experience for our service users, their carers, families and our communities.

They will provide specialist communications and engagement leadership and support to key Trust-wide strategic programmes that help deliver the Trust’s strategy, primarily the Patient and Carer Race Equality Framework (PCREF) and Patient Stories project . The role will also provide input and advice into the communications and engagement plan for the pilot of a new 24/7 community mental health service in Lewisham which is one of six funded by NHS England.

The Strategic Planning and Equalities Team works collaboratively with teams all over the Trust, in particular Communications, Transformation and Programme Management Office teams. We have office space at Maudsley Hospital, but work flexibly with in person, remote and hybrid working.

South London and Maudsley provides the widest range of NHS mental health services in the UK as well as substance misuse services. We work closely with the Institute of Psychiatry, Psychology and Neuroscience, King's College London and are part of King's Health Partners Academic Health Sciences Centre. Our scope is unique because it is built on three major foundations: care and treatment, science and research, and training.

We employ around 6000 staff and serve a local population of 1.3 million. We have more than 230 services including inpatient wards, outpatient and community services. Currently, we provide inpatient care for approximately 5,300 people each year and treat more than 45,000 patients in the community in Croydon, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark; as well as substance misuse services for residents of Bexley, Bromley and Greenwich.

Key responsibilities:
Lead on the planning, design, delivery and co-ordination of a regular programme of Trust-wide stakeholder engagement events to continually inform and feedback on Trust strategy, development of the annual strategic plans and its strategic workstreams.
Co-lead on and manage the communications and engagement workstream of the Patient and Carer Race Equality Framework (PCREF) programme with a community and service user and carer representative
Provide expertise and insight to colleagues across the Trust, in order to support local programmes of community engagement in line with the Trust’s overall communications and engagement approach.
Develop and be responsible for effective engagement and working relationships with the Trust’s voluntary sector partners in relation to experience, participation and involvement.
Develop and be responsible for effective engagement and working relationships with the Trust’s statutory sector partners, e.g. local authorities, Healthwatches and ICSs in relation to experience and involvement. To provide Trust senior leadership with information regarding activity of our partners, e.g. events, reports, meetings, consultations.
Develop and be responsible for excellent working relationships between the Strategic Planning and Equalities team and the Directorates, and working with Directorate Public and Patient Involvement Leads to ensure there is a coordinated and consistent approach to involving service users and carers in strategic work.
