Role Overview
A Configuration & Sustainable IT Technician works in a dedicated space where IT equipment such as computers, servers, routers, switches, and cables are assembled, configured, tested, and stored. Responsibilities include ensuring IT equipment is ready for deployment, installation, or troubleshooting in various locations within an organization. Maintenance, repairs, upgrades, or replacements of IT equipment may also be performed as needed.
Key Responsibilities
As a Configuration & Sustainable IT Technician, you will undertake the following:
- Receive, unpack, and inventory IT equipment from vendors or suppliers.
- Assemble, configure, asset tag and test IT equipment according to specifications and standards.
- Label, document, and organize IT equipment in the configuration centre.
- Prepare and pack IT equipment for shipment or delivery to various locations.
- Install, connect, and troubleshoot IT equipment at the designated locations.
- Perform preventive maintenance, diagnostics, and repairs on IT equipment.
- Update and maintain records of IT equipment inventory, status, and location.
- Follow safety and security procedures and policies in the configuration centre.
- Report any issues, problems, or incidents related to the IT equipment or the configuration centre.
- Perform lifecycle management of IT assets to ensure environmental compliance.
Essential Skills and Experience
- Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate cross-functionally.
- Experience with configuring various IT hardware and software platforms.
- A certificate or diploma in IT, computer science, or a related field.
- A relevant professional certification, such as CompTIA A+, Network+, or Server+.
- Experience in IT equipment assembly, configuration, testing, installation, or troubleshooting.
- Knowledge of IT equipment specifications, standards, and best practices.
- Knowledge of IT equipment safety and security procedures and policies.
- Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Ability to follow instructions and work under pressure.
- Attention to detail, accuracy, and organization.
- Physical strength, stamina, and dexterity to handle IT equipment.
