Senior Communications and Engagement Officer

NHS Hertfordshire and West Essex Integrated Care Board is looking for a motivated and creative senior communications and engagement officer to join our busy, friendly team. The successful candidate will help us to improve the health and wellbeing of our 1.6 million residents by taking the conversation about local NHS campaigns, services and activities to the public, media, patients and staff.
You’ll be joining us at an exciting and challenging time. Our mission is to use our skills to help people living and working in Hertfordshire and west Essex to live healthier lives for longer. That means supporting people online with great advice and written information, meeting people in person at events across Hertfordshire and west Essex, and capturing and sharing compelling stories through the use of video and photography, clear and concise writing, and eye-catching design.
You don’t need to have experience of working in the NHS, but you will need to be able to demonstrate your commitment to understanding the health and wellbeing challenges faced by residents and staff, and how communications and public engagement can help tackle these challenges. The successful candidate will need to be able to work alongside medical professionals, people facing health inequalities, and colleagues from across health, social care and the voluntary and community sector.
You will work across all aspects of communications and engagement including media relations, creating content for social media, on-line channels and publications, running events and delivering campaigns and engagement. You must have excellent writing and interpersonal skills as well as experience in working in a communications, marketing or engagement role. You’ll also need be confident communicating with key audiences through digital platforms as well as traditional channels.
No two days will be the same, and they will be fast paced and filled with competing deadlines. You’ll need to be efficient, well organised and confident working independently. As well as being able to use your own initiative and developing new ideas, you will also enjoy working as part of a team and responding to incoming requests.
It’s not necessary for you to have NHS experience, but you will need to be able to grasp and communicate issues quickly and have a natural flair for dealing with people at all levels.
This creative and varied role would suit someone who is looking to gain practical experience to further their career or looking to return to the workplace.
We offer our employees a hybrid way of working. People have the flexibility to work from our offices in Hemel Hempstead, Welwyn Garden City and Harlow, and from home. There are regular in-office days that will require you to attend all three offices on a rota basis.
