About us:
King’s College London are looking to recruit an individual into the role of Financial Accountant as part of the University’s Financial Accounting function.
This is a critical function within the Finance, Procurement, Strategic Planning and Analytics team that has overall responsibility for the delivery of the University’s annual financial statements and associated statutory returns and ensuring a strong financial controls environment within the department.
About the role:
The primary function of the role will be leading the preparation of the University’s group financial statements and other statutory financial returns including in-year balance sheet and cash flow reporting.
This role will help to manage the University’s financial year end close process and audit, maintaining a relationship with the University’s auditors.
The role will be responsible for developing and maintaining a strong financial control environment and infrastructure, including but not limited to balance sheet reconciliations and maintenance of the University’s chart of accounts structure.
Reporting to the Head of Financial Accounts, this role will be a part of a wider Financial Accounts team and so will be asked to work across the function’s activities and support other members of the team.
With a wide focus, the Financial Accounts team work with most teams within the Finance Directorate and the role holder will need to be able to form and maintain strong working relationships throughout the department, and wider areas of the University that the team works with to ensure that strong financial controls are pervasive and being properly implemented and reviewed.
This is a full-time post (35 Hours per week), and you will be offered an indefinite contract.
About you: (the candidate)
To be successful in this role, we are looking for candidates to have the following skills and experience:
Essential criteria
1. CCAB Qualified Accountant or demonstrable equivalent experience
2. Preparation or audit of financial statements for large complex organisations (applying United Kingdom Financial Reporting Standards (including FRS 102))
3. Understanding of audit practice
4. Preparation of financial reports/analysis
5. Enquiring, analytical and problem solving with the ability to absorb information quickly and accurately.
6. Designing and implementing or reviewing and testing of financial controls and balance sheet reconciliations.
7. A high level of interpersonal and communication skills, building and managing internal and external relationships including the ability to explain complex accounting issues to non-accountants
8. Strong organisational skills, including the ability to prioritise work and remain effective when working under pressure to meet challenging deadlines without sacrificing attention to detail and accuracy.
9. Self-management, adaptable and flexible in approach with the ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
Desirable criteria
1. Knowledge of US GAAP
2. Use of complex financial systems (e.g. Unit4)
