The role: The CoSTAR National Lab PR, Media & Events Manager is a key part of the MarComms Team, working closely with the Head of Marketing & Communications to deliver the PR, Media & Events deliverables as part of the marketing & communications strategy for an ambitious UK R&D and innovation programme. You will work in a creative, inclusive and dynamic environment where you will be responsible for planning, writing, creating and promoting all PR, Media & Events activities.

About the CoSTAR National Lab: Royal Holloway, University of London, is the lead organisation for the CoSTAR National Lab, a £51.1m investment by the UK Government to ensure the UK’s screen and performance industries have the infrastructure and the skills to stay ahead.

By bringing together world leaders in technology, research and story, we will catalyse innovation for the UK’s Creative Industries. Partnered with National Film & Television School, Pinewood Studios, BT, Disguise & Surrey County Council, the CoSTAR National Lab will place R&D at the heart of UK storytelling and storytelling at the heart of R&D. Our Lab will include dedicated Stage and Studio space, featuring advanced creative computing technologies including AI, virtual production and 5G systems. Our consortium brings together world-leading research teams from media production, psychology, business and drama at Royal Holloway, AI at University of Surrey; and Creative Technology at Abertay University; and professional training at the National Film & Television School. What You Will Be Doing:

  • To identify, plan and lead the delivery of targeted, dynamic and creative PR, media relations and Events (hybrid/remote/in-person) activity across internal and external channels to promote the CoSTAR National Lab and associated activities
  • To research, develop, and plan an editorial calendar of PR, Media and events activities that creatively and clearly communicates the CoSTAR National Lab’s expertise, thought leadership and research areas
  • To write, create, test and review high quality written content that brings the story of the CoSTAR National Lab to life including press releases, news stories, blogs, papers, podcasts, case studies, presentations, awards entries, conferences etc.
  • To develop and maintain an established network of media contacts among local and national media journalists, bloggers and influencers within creative industries (Film, TV, Games, Live Entertainment, Immersive) to deliver maximum impact for our PR campaigns
  • To monitor the national creative industries (Film, TV, Games, Live Ent), technology and AI news agenda in order to be proactive in identifying opportunities for CoSTAR National Lab to comment or contribute

You should apply if you:

  • Can showcase previous experience in generating engaging and inspiring articles, blog posts and press coverage for multiple digital platforms for PR, Internal/External Comms, web and social media within creative industries or similar
  • Demonstrate experience of delivering impactful internal and external online, hybrid and in-person events
  • Have a positive ‘can do’ and solution-focussed approach with the ability to multi-task different projects and priorities as well as working well as part of a team
  • Would enjoy the challenge and buzz of working for the new CoSTAR National Lab in R&D for the Creative Industries with world-leading higher education institutions and industry partners, based at Royal Holloway in Egham and Pinewood Studios
  • Show a keen interest in emerging technologies, research and innovation

This is a full-time, permanent role available from October/November 2024. This post is based in Egham, Surrey, but with expectation of significant working time at the CoSTAR National Lab which is being built in the region.
