Management Accountant THQ sits within the management accounting function within the finance team. Based in the Territorial Headquarters they assist the Mission Management Accountants (MMA’s) in the support of budget holders within the assigned client group with their financial activities. They will provide financial analysis, budget support and financial planning by preparing management accounts and providing variance analysis as well as providing customer focused financial partnering to meet the current requirements & planned future developments.

Key Responsibilities: The MA provides proactive financial partnering to their assigned client group, supporting and advising on operational decision making, driving organisational performance and building financial capability. They are responsible for the preparation of monthly management accounts, quarterly forecasts, monthly variance analysis as well as monitor headcount/ FTEs. In the main they will be undertaking consolidation activities and will be undertaking and supporting the full budget process.

In addition you will:

  • Support the MMA with preparing and presenting reporting and other relevant data – headcount, dashboards etc
  • Regularly liaise with their “customer” contacts on a day-to-day basis dealing with queries and relating to their relevant area.
  • Run monthly reporting processes and will develop reports for their group areas as requested to improve financial planning and performance. Ensure all issues and risks are highlighted to the MMA.
  • Prepare and input journal adjustments, month end accruals and prepayments and will assist in preparing year-end schedules.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate:

  • Full and current accountancy qualification from a professional body, preferable CCAB / CIMA.
  • Intermediate to advanced level Excel capability.
  • Experience of sophisticated accounting systems.
  • Good analytical skills including analysing variances.
  • Experience of working with budget holders, preparing and presenting budgets and forecasts.
  • Provide relevant support through business cases with financial analysis for projects as well as tendering for contracts as required.
  • Experience supporting analysis of key business decisions.
  • Ability to influence stakeholders / Experience of delivering proactive business partnering.
  • Proven report writing ability.
