About us
Our mission is to deliver joy in every shop, through unbeatable choice, unrivaled service, and reassuringly good value.
We’re Ocado Retail, a market-leading, joint venture between Ocado Group and M&S and the world’s largest dedicated online supermarket ocado.com. Not only is Ocado.com the only place to shop a full range of M&S food online, but it’s also the home to the widest online supermarket range in the UK and champion of small, independent brands. We’re also the brains behind Zoom by Ocado, our same-day grocery delivery service.
About the team and the role
The Senior Copywriter will be part of EAT Creative, our talented in-house creative team. This lot is a mighty bunch of colleagues inspired by our three awesome values: “Always be curious”, “Bring your best self” and “Challenge what's possible”. We’re always looking for like-minded people to bring on board, and this is a fantastic opportunity for a Senior Copywriter to join a fast-moving, growing business. We’re a fun, dynamic and snack-loving team that’s always ready to go the extra mile (and run to the freebie table on the third floor).
What you’ll do
Each day is different and new stuff pops up all the time, but you should expect to work on the following tasks regularly:
- You’ll spend a big chunk of your time on CRM, working closely with our lovely Web Designers and Art Workers to ideate, write, and edit regular comms with our customers across the UK. These emails have an average business revenue of £1 million, so quality and consistency are key.
- Write copy for print materials such as door drops and ads for OcadoLife Magazine, media and banners for o.com and other partners, social assets (for paid and organic) and service emails, including apology comms and ad-hoc requests. Some knowledge or experience of web user experience copy will be beneficial.
- Concept new and refreshed customer retention email journeys with the wider Creative and Marketing teams, leading from a copy perspective and incorporating behavioural science to elevate and messaging.
- Work on seasonal sales events (think Halloween and Valentine’s Day) from early concept to final messaging.
- Support the team with editing and proofreading.
- Guide junior members of the team and bring new joiners up to speed.
- Act as an Ocado TOV guardian, ensuring consistency across the board and challenging whenever necessary.
- Liaise with the Marketing team and stakeholders to absorb, question and respond to briefs, building cross-team relationships/collaboration.
Who you are
- Advanced skills in writing customer-facing copy; content (inc. SEO); digital comms; print comms; PPC / paid search advertising; social media; UX; web; branding (incl. application guidelines). Understand what business owners are asking for, and translate that into commercial, powerful and creative solutions.
- Experience working in Figma and Adobe Workfont is a plus.
- Easily work within a defined tone of voice and brand guidelines. Ensure that all copy is consistent with the Ocado brand voice and tone.
- Effectively communicate your thinking to colleagues and/or business owners.
- Up-to-date knowledge of best practice for web, email and mobile communications, including accessibility.
- Work with Designers and Art Directors to establish conceptual direction and combine verbal and visual elements in a way that maximises a message's impact. Ability to concept and present ideas, including scamps, mood boards and storyboards is desirable.
- Experience in retail/FMCG eCommerce is preferable but not essential.
