Position Title: Design Engineer

Location: Paneltex Ltd, Somerden Road, Hull. HU9 5PE

Hours of work: 40 hours per week - Not remote - Monday to Friday 09:00 to 17:30

Salary: £35,000 - £40,000 DOE

Other Benefits: Equivalent of 32 days annual leave (inclusive of bank holidays), Contributory pension scheme & Life Assurance cover.


Job Overview

The role of Design Engineer is to work in the drawing office and design manufacturing processes and products.

Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Working on individual jobs as they pass through the engineering dept and ensuring they are produced on time and in full.
  • Using the job specification to create structured 3d models leading to 2d manufacturing and assembly drawings and accurate Bills of Materials.
  • Ensure drawings are produced to standard formats and take into account vehicle regulations such as Whole Vehicle Type Approval.
  • Design and calculation of simple components.
  • Amend/update drawings as a result of performing design changes and improvements.
  • Liaison with other departments to ensure effective communication.
  • Production of sales drawings for customer enquiries.
  • Occasional involvement in R+D projects.
  • Liaison with the shop floor during production of the job.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Fluency in Autodesk Inventor 2023, Vault 2023 and AutoCad 2023 (Experience of iLogic would be beneficial, but not essential).
  • MS Office fluency (at least Word, Excel and Outlook)
  • Good engineering knowledge of materials and their properties (particularly steel, timber and GRP composites).
  • An awareness of Whole Vehicle Type Approval regulations.
  • An understanding of Design for Manufacture.
  • Experience of working within a Lean Manufacturing environment.
  • Ability to visualise solutions (and problems!)
  • Basic project management skills.
  • The ability to work to deadlines.
  • A keen eye for detail.

Qualifications

  • 2-3 years’ experience in a similar position/industry.
  • Background of engineering qualifications (probably mechanical)
  • Practical commercial vehicle bodybuilding (or van conversion) experience using insulated panels could be beneficial.
