Social and Engagement Specialist Full Time

M&C Saatchi UK are looking for a Social and Engagement Specialist who is passionate about social issues and social media: what trends are shaping it, what best practice looks like and how the landscape is changing.

This is a unique role that requires a skilled writer and social media native, with strong empathy and creative skills, excellent attention to detail and a problem-solver. You’ll have also worked with clients in the non-profit, NGO or charity sector previously, and be passionate about social issues and working on campaigns with wider societal impact.


What You’ll Do:

Content Development

  • Own and manage social content calendars, developing copy and working alongside creatives and editors to inform content approach
  • Develop editorial and content calendars for the month ahead, leveraging calendar moments, reacting to the news agenda, and amplifying relevant content from advocates
  • Generate ideas and come up with new tactics for engagement across client channels
  • Briefing production where required - storyboarding, design briefing, scripting video and recommending formats and executional approaches
  • Publish approved content to approved social media channels in a timely manner
  • You’re someone who stays up to date with content development, social trends and cultural moments, and you’re familiar with trending content, formats and current platform best practice
  • Help inform reporting and performance insights utilising automated and native platform tools, tracking ongoing page and content KPIs
  • Support the leadership team with regular campaign reviews, presenting results and learnings

Community Focus


  • Manage the day-to-day activity of all social media and community channels on key accounts, including (but not limited to) Instagram, YouTube, Facebook, X (Twitter), TikTok
  • Engage with communities via comments leveraging the established tone and personality of the organisation to foster a safe and inclusive environment
  • Tone of voice is vital - you’ll be a confident writer who can write with tact, nuance and sensitivity.
  • Manage ongoing audience engagement and community escalation process across organisational pages, escalating to relevant internal and external stakeholders from within MCS team and senior client stakeholders.


What you'll bring:


  • Native social media user who can show a deep understanding of key platforms. You’re across trends, new formats, and clever ways to tell a story, and have strong points of view on what constitutes best in class
  • A strong sense of personal empathy and creativity is particularly important for this role and client
  • Experience in reactive social media
  • At least 6 years experience in social media content, community management, social media or marketing roles
  • Non-profit / charity / NGO experience preferred
  • Previous experience running social channels for an organisation preferred
  • Strong community management abilities
  • Strong organisational and excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience in working in communications around sensitive or difficult subjects highly desirable
  • Engaged in social issues
  • Organised, proactive and diligent
  • A team player, collaborating with creative and strategy teams to react to changing context

Nice to have:

  • Experience of using social listening tools (eg Brandwatch, Pulsar, Netbase)
  • Content development tools (After Effects, Photoshop, Canva etc)
  • Short video / moving image content experience - scripting, storyboarding, editin
  • An understanding of and experience with influencer marketing
  • An understanding of paid social media and how it fits with broader strategy
