Assistant Accountant – Management Accounts Full Time

The Local Government Association (LGA) is the national membership body for local authorities. We work on behalf of our member councils to support, promote and improve local government.

We are a politically led, cross-party organisation that works on behalf of councils to ensure local government has a strong, credible voice with national government. We influence and set the political agenda on the issues that matter to councils to help them deliver local solutions to national problems.

We also provide councils with the tools and resources to respond to challenges present and emerging, and support improvement across the sector.

About the role

An exciting opportunity have arisen for Assistant Management Accountant who is highly driven, enthusiastic, and self-motivated, to become part of the Strategic Finance team.

The successful candidate will be responsible for assisting in all the LGA’s management accounts processes, including month end processes, budgeting and forecasting, and ad hoc reporting, all delivered through effective business partnering.

We work flexibly, with two days per week in the office.

Previous experience of working with Properties (including investment properties) is preferred.

You must have the right to work in the UK, the LGA are unfortunately unable to offer sponsorship visas. Evidence for the right to work in the UK will be requested at the interview stage.

We are specifically assessing candidates against the following criteria:

  • A good knowledge of office/finance accounting systems, including Excel, and procedures, likely to have been gained from previous experience within a Finance team;
  • Experience of preparing management accounts;
  • Good oral and written communication skills;
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to deal with email, face-to-face and telephone enquiries in a courteous and patient manner, providing a high level of customer care;
  • Experience of managing complex relationships, and exposure to working with senior management;
  • Experience of producing work of a high standard with a high level of attention to detail; and
  • Appropriate professional qualification achieved (or part-qualified working towards full qualification).

  • LGA annual leave entitlement is 29 days, rising to 31 days after three years’ service and to 33 days after five years’ service, plus all UK public holidays (pro rata for fixed term and part time contracts).*
