Our Employment Tax, Incentives and Payroll (ETIP) team sits within our Workforce team, as part of our wider Tax and Legal practice. Workforce is built up of specialist teams who provide advice and support to manage organisational and people challenges, delivering tailored solutions to each of our clients. As part of the ETIP team you'll help clients ensure that they are paying employees correctly and paying the correct tax. About the role

This is an exciting opportunity for an individual to join the ETIP team that provides a breadth of services to clients to support clients in managing their regulatory compliance in respect of tax and social security obligations, and also satisfying their legal obligations in paying their employees.

A key growth area is Pay Governance, which incorporates the key technical areas of National Minimum Wage (NMW) and Holiday Pay, and we are looking for a Manager to join the existing team and support these services.

This will be across a wide range of clients spanning all sectors and including UK listed (PLC and AIM) and unlisted (family, private equity-backed) businesses. The scope of the role is wide and will vary depending on the needs of our clients. Responsibilities will include the following areas (although this is not exhaustive);

Responsibilities

  • Advising clients in respect of NMW and Holiday Pay, and other associated areas, including working with the wider team to ensure that associated areas of employment tax and national insurance are covered

  • Assisting clients with HMRC enquiries.

  • Assisting with the preparation of calculations relevant to NMW / holiday pay to support clients in determining underpayments (if any)

  • Being the day-to-day client contact / managing the underlying financials

  • Assisting clients build fit for purpose internal governance structures to ensure robust management of areas of pay governance and wider regulations

  • Assisting with client management, including risk processes, timely billing and cash collection

  • Informal and formal training of more junior members of the team

Essential skills and experience:

  • Experience of NMW as a priority, including HMRC reviews, either within HMRC, in-house or within a consultancy practice

  • Experience of NMW calculation methodology (preparation and review)

  • Strong organisational and project management skills including a proven ability to independently prioritise and work to strict deadlines

  • Strong communication skills, written and verbal

  • Ability to work flexibly as part of a team

  • Ability to apply good judgement, consult appropriately and manage risks

  • Confidence in leading others and the ability to teach, encourage and motivate junior staff

  • Strong report writing skills
